Writing Services

My job is to help psychology concentrators become better writers in the discipline. I work primarily with students who are enrolled in a Sophomore Tutorial (a course that emphasizes disciplinary writing), but any psychology concentrator is welcome to contact me with questions or to set up a meeting about a paper draft.

Students:

Everyone - from those just starting out in the concentration to those who are planning their retirement from the Harvard Psychology faculty - benefits from having others read their drafts and revising in light of their feedback. No matter what level you are currently at, I will work with you to develop a plan for improving your psychology paper, so that it will be more persuasive, clear, stylistically acceptable, and interesting to your readers.

During Fall '09, I will be available most afternoons to meet with students. To set up a meeting, email jeffebert at gmail dot com. Please send me an electronic copy of your draft the day before our meeting, and bring a printout of the draft to the meeting. My office is Room 1460 in William James Hall.

Sophomore Tutors (and other instructors whose courses include a significant writing component):

I encourage you to set aside a few minutes during one of your classes for me to drop in and introduce myself and the services I offer. Ideally, this visit would take place early in the semester or in conjunction with a class devoted to writing.

I am in the process of developing materials that will give students practice mastering some of the trickier aspects of writing for psychology. If you have suggestions for topics these materials should cover, or ideas for how to cover certain topics, please let me know!
