Making Your Own Web Page Via SecureCRT

Login to your wjh account via SecureCRT and from the wjh ~> prompt, type the following lines:
  1. cd
  2. Note: This moves you to the top level of your home directory.
  3. chmod a+x .
  4. Note: The dot at the end of the command is required to make the entire directory world executable.
  5. mkdir WWW
  6. Note: The directory name must be uppercase.
  7. cd WWW
  8. Note: This move you into the new web directory.

These commands will make a directory (WWW) for your web files, and set appropriate web permissions so that others can read your web files.

The web address, or URL for your index page will be:
http://www.wjh.harvard.edu/~username/
where username is your wjh login name.

You are now ready to upload web materials into your WWW directory. Be certain that all materials you include there are world readable. This can be accomplished with the following command:
chmod a+rx *.html

Making Your Own Web Page Via SecureFX

Login to your wjh account via SecureFX and perform the following steps:
  1. Click on the folder with your username and go to the File menu, select New and then select Folder...
  2. In the New directory field type in WWW and click OK
  3. Note: the directory name must be uppercase.
  4. Right-click on the WWW and select Properties
  5. In the Attributes field type in 711 and click OK
  6. Note: This will set the permissions on the folder to be world executable.
You are now ready to upload web materials into your WWW directory. Be certain that all materials you include there are world readable. This can be accomplished by performing the following steps:
  1. Right-click on the file(s) and select Properties
  2. Enter 755 in the Attributes field and click OK
