Using Appleshare on a Mac
To access a keyserver from a Macintosh, select Chooser from the Apple
menu. Click on AppleShare and then select FAS Computer Services. A
list of connected servers will appear. Choose FAS Server_1. A dialog
box will appear with a list of places to connect to. Choose General
Software. This will cause a file cabinet icon called General Software
to appear on your desktop.
Open General Software. Inside you will find several folders full of
applications listed by their topic, such as Internet Tools or
Graphics. Look through them until you find the application you want.
If you are going to use this application frequently, such as a stats
package you need to analyze experimental data, we recommend that you
copy the application onto your hard drive. Just click and drag the
application's icon onto your desktop or whichever folder you want to
keep it in. This does not violate any copyright or licensing laws
because the application has been set up to automatically check for a
free license every time you use it. Keeping a copy of the application
on your hard drive will make it run faster and will help keep the
applications server from slowing down because it is trying to run all
of the applications it maintains.
There are several other places where you can find keyserved
applications. Feel free to browse through the servers available
through AppleShare.
