Jessica was born in London, England, where she lived in a commune in North London and in a building with Mick Jagger in South Kensington. She lived in Scotland (Troon), France (Cannes), and Spain (Jerez de la Frontera) as a baby before moving to the United States. Since coming to America, she has lived in New Jersey, Oregon, California, Illinois, Ohio, Minnesota, and Massachusetts.

She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in English and American Literature and Creative Writing and a minor in French Film and Culture. After graduation she worked for several years as a copywriter for the University of Illinois Press. She was a writer and editor for Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (a local HMO) and Children’s Hospital Boston and has worked part-time for the Harvard Law School Library and as a hostess for Icarus and Anago restaurants. From 2000-2005, she was the Graduate Program Coordinator for the Sociology Department at the University of Minneapolis-Twin Cities.

From 2005 to 2008, she held several long-term temporary assignments at Harvard, where she assisted the Director of the MPP Program at the Kennedy School, helped students with financial aid matters in the LLM Program at the Law School, publicized events at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, and coordinated admissions for the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology Program at Harvard Medical School.

A few other random facts: she has 3 brothers, 1 sister, 3 nephews, and 2 cats (Angus and Clyde). As a teenager, she attended the Queen's garden party at her Scottish estate in Edinburgh, Holyrood Palace. In 1997, she ran the Boston Marathon to raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Every July, she attempts to see all of the films shown at the French Film Festival at the Museum of Fine Arts.
