Biographical Note

Pavel Zhelyazkov was born and raised in Bulgaria. He completed a B.S. in Economics and Sociology at Duke University, where he received the Ida Simpson undergraduate research prize for his work on the reputational dynamics of the academic labor markets. After graduating, he worked for three years at the Montreal office of McKinsey and Company, working on a variety of problems across a number of industries: from commodity price hedging strategy in the oil and gas industry to marketing strategy for an automotive OEM to organizational change for an asset manager. He ultimately specialized in financial risk management, serving a number of financial services companies – banks and pension funds in North and South America – through the most challenging period of the global financial crisis. His interests lie in macro-organizational behavior, especially in how interpersonal and interorganizational networks interact to shape behavior and performance.
