Biographical Note

Originally from Rochester New York, Alba received her undergraduate degree in sociology and psychology at Swarthmore College in May 2011. Her senior honors thesis explored the mobilization strategies of the Young Lords, a radical Puerto Rican group located in New York City during the late 1960s. Her project investigated the ways in which the Young Lords negotiated American and Puerto Rican understandings of nation and race to engage intraracial differences within the New York Puerto Rican community. Alba's research interests include: race/racial identity, culture, social movements, and social psychology.
