Biographical Note

Uh Young was born and grew up in a tiny, peaceful town of southern province in South Korea where she lived until she finished her high school.

She graduated from Yonsei University with a B.A. in Sociology with Highest Honors (Summa Cum Laude). During college, she attended University of California, Berkeley as an exchange student in 2006, where she became interested in migration and family issues. At Berkeley, she conducted a research on impacts of migration on family lives and worked as a Korean lanauge tutor in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. She also interned for a research project named "POLISH: Participatory Research, Organizing and Leadership Initiative for Sefety and Health" in a local community. At Yonsei, she worked for the university newspaper as a reporter, publishing articles about current social issues and local news.

Her current research interests include migration, ethnic relations, family life, and culture that aim to mediate cultural adaptation of immigrants in general. Outside of academics, Uh Young enjoys watching and pondering upon movies, listening to music, and strolling around.
