Biographical Note

Jackelyn Hwang received her B.A.S. with honors in Sociology and Mathematics from Stanford University in 2007. Her senior thesis, which earned the Stanford Firestone Medal, explored racial differences in perceptions of neighborhood boundaries during gentrification. As an undergraduate, she worked as a research assistant in the Stanford Sociology and Psychology Departments and at the University of Pittsburgh Sociology Department. After graduating from Stanford, she lived in Philadelphia, PA working in education management for a community-focused charter school in West Philadelphia. Her current research interests include urban sociology, urban development and change, race and ethnic relations, neighborhood effects, inequality and urban poverty, and education.
