Nicole Arlette Hirsch

Biographical Note

Nicole Arlette Hirsch is a San Francisco native but calls Brooklyn home. She earned her B.A. in Sociology at Columbia University with a minor in African American Studies. There she researched the network of services targeting children of incarcerated parents, and worked with incarcerated youth at Rikers Island. Upon graduating, she taught visual arts, African dance and French in East Harlem for two years, before working as a teaching artist instructing dance and creative movement in the New York City public school system. Nicole also helps to run a performing arts and circus summer camp in California. Her research interests combine her love of the arts and her strong commitment to social justice.

Impact of incarceration on poor, urban communities. Relationship between the Arts, activism and social justice. General interest in race and ethnicity.
Previous Degrees
