Biographical Note

Katie Derzon graduated in 2002 from the University of Wisconsin, majoring in psychology and legal studies. After graduation she served in Peace Corps China as an English teacher. Katie returned to the U.S. and received a master's from Marquette University through the Trinity Fellowship. While there, Katie interned at a Milwaukee area non-profit which sought alternative sentences for criminal offenders. It was the experience of working with the criminal justice system that influenced her research goals; her academic interests involve understanding how low income individuals and families (especially those who have been affected by the system) meet their financial needs.
