Biographical Note

Eunmi Mun will be a Lecturer on Sociology for the spring 2012 term while a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Edwin O. Reischauer Institute for Japanese Studies for 2011-12 academic year. Dr. Mun will receive her Ph.D. in November 2011 from Harvard University with a dissertation titled, “The Organizational Reproduction of Gender Inequality: The Equal Employment Opportunity Law and Women’s Employment in Japan, 1986-2009.” Using company-panel data, her research analyzes corporate responses to the EEO Law in Japan, and provides an organizational explanation of persistent gender inequality in workplaces even after significant legal and social pressures to reduce the gap. She is interested in the mechanisms of gender inequality in workplaces, changes of labor market institutions, and relationship between law and organizations. Her current research includes corporate maternity leave polices in low fertility societies and HR policies of foreign companies in Japan. Her research has been published in Social Forces, and was supported by the Edwin O. Reischauer Institute for Japanese Studies and Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies.
