Step Five: Research and Data Analysis
Midyear requirements
In January, the department will report a sat/unsat grade for your fall term thesis work. This grade will be based upon three factors:
-
Completion of your prospectus meeting
This assumes prior submission of a prospectus. If you have not submitted the long-overdue prospectus paperwork you must attend to this immediately to avoid an unsatisfactory grade report for your senior tutorial.
-
Submission of a Midyear Progress Report Form
The midyear progress report should be submitted to Tom Barnard in the Psychology Undergraduate Office no later than 5 p.m., Tuesday, 16 December, 2008. It should be a one-or-two-page description of your fall thesis work, and should also include your planned schedule for completion of your thesis research, data analysis, and writing before the thesis submission deadline of Thursday, March 19th, 2009. Your supervisor(s) must sign the report, and e-mail signatures will not be accepted. If you have encountered any particular problems or complications in your research this fall, please also briefly describe those issues in your report, as well as how you have been able to, or how you plan to, work through them. You may also want to share this report with your reader, especially if you have not been in touch with her/him since your prospectus meeting.
-
Evaluation from your thesis supervisor
This is now part of your midyear progress report form
(see 2., above)
Dropping your thesis at midyear
If you are considering dropping your thesis, you need to decide in December or January, because if you do drop, you will need to submit a paper before the end of the fall examination period to get a grade of "satisfactory" in your senior tutorial for the fall term. (You can then divide the tutorial for one-semester credit and count it as one half-course of concentration elective in a regular program.) This paper needs to reflect work beyond the prospectus, and your supervisor(s) can set specific requirements for it. This paper is due not later than noon on Friday, 9 January 2009, with copies to both your thesis supervisor(s) and the Psychology Undergraduate Office.
As you shift from an honors to a regular program, your first half of
the senior tutorial (if you complete it satisfactorily) and Psychology
985 (if you took it last year) will count as concentration electives.
Your overall concentration requirements will also shift; if you have any
questions about completing the right number and type of concentration
courses, be sure to check with your concentration advisor.
Finally - a timely reminder re: petitions
Senior petitions for any fall-term courses are due on Tuesday 16 December 2008, so you should submit them before you leave this week.
