Cognitive Neuropsychology
By studying patients with
language disorders resulting from brain damage, we can make inferences
about the kinds of cognitive representations and processes that constitute
the normal language system.
Cognitive Psychology
Studies of unimpaired individuals'
performance on language production tasks, using behavioral measures
like reaction time, answer fine-grained questions about the structure
of representations and the time course of processing. Check our Participation
page for information about experiments now underway.
Computational
Modeling
Insights from experiments
with aphasic and neurologically intact subjects can be used to inform
computational models of speech production.
Functional Neuroimaging
We have recently begun to
use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and transcranial magnetic
stimulation (TMS) to identify brain regions that subserve various components
of language.
